23RD DIABETAVERSARY

Today at 11:30am will be 23 years since I was diagnosed with diabetes.

It has been a long road. Thinking back to my early days in this club it was a lot harder.
Blood testing took 2 to 3 minutes and what seemed like a gallon of blood. There were no insulin pumps, fast insulins or CGMs.
Carb counting was not part of the conversation. It was all about ‘exchanges.’ Lunch was 2 breads, 2 meats, 1 fruit, 1 veg. There was no, “I’m not hungry” or “I’m still hungry.” Turn you basal rate down? What’s a basal rate?

Although this disease still sucks as much as it did the day I got it, I feel lucky to live in a time of such great advancements. With today’s technology we can all live much healthier, fuller lives.

I wonder what we will see in another 23 years.
