A Cure for Type 1 Diabetes?

7

I saw this article about a possible cure for Type 1 Diabetes and wonder why it is not getting MUCH more attention.

Haven’t we been told the cure is 5 to 10 years away? I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been hearing that for 24 years.

This study looks promising though; the dogs in question have maintained “normal blood sugars”. One set of injections has ‘cured’ them for 4+ years! That’s good enough for me. Give me a shot every couple of years and I’ll skip the thousands I’m taking now (when I’m not wearing a pump).

Would you consider these injections for yourself or a loved one? Leave a comment below…

Absolutely! I would do anything to give my daughter her life back!

Ken, where is the article? What year were you diagnosed? Was it in 1989, like me?! I agree, 24 years ago you heard of a cure that was supposedly a decade or so away. 21/2 decades later there is no more talk of a cure. One shot every four years sounds GREAT to me too!

Funny same year but summer and i was 10 Just found your blog. Love the cgm experiment I have always thought I would want to do that. I sometimes check with two different meters then compare to my cgm. Most of the time one is way off. About to read your blogs on a long car trip 🙂

The CGM manufacturers recommend you use the same meter for the duration of the sensor. Going from meter to meter can sometimes show a big difference, kind of scary seeing as how we base out insulin dose on those numbers.
If you are getting a big enough difference, usually the meter company will send you a new one.
          Enjoy your trip!

I just check with different meters for my personal entertainment. Sad but true and it is scarey. It freaks my husband out a little but the life of us :). I did have one send me a new one a about two months ago but it reads about the same. I think it’s just that different company’s read different. Can’t wait til the end of the week to see how your week with all three cgm went.
